R34 Nissan Skyline vs MKIV Toyota Supra

R34 Nissan Skyline GT-R vs MKIV Toyota Supra is a long debated topic which usually turns into an argument in some way or another. Is the Nissan Skyline’s all wheel drive layout better than the rugged rear wheel drive juggernaut of the Toyota Supra? Both are powered by closely powered inline-6 twin turbocharged engines. The Nissan Skyline has a 2.5 liter RB26DETT making 297HP while the Toyota Supra’s 3.0 liter 2JZ-GTE pushes out an amazing 320HP. Your probably thinking the Supra makes more power, but the Skyline has AWD and must be lighter and faster right? Wrong, stock vs stock the Toyota Supra beats the Nissan Skyline GTR on 1/4 mile, 0-60 and 0-100 and are both even with an impressive top speed. Check out the chart below.

The Toyota Supra is a faster and a quicker performing car than the Nissan Skyline GT-R in base form. The Skyline doesnt hold a real advantage until aftermarket power is produced. Both the Toyota and Nissan respond VERY well to aftermarket modifications and both engines can easily obtain the 1000+ WHP mark. The difference is how that power is translated to the road, this is where the AWD vs RWD comes in. A properly setup Toyota Supra is a scary sight on the dragstrip and can break the 9 second mark while staying street legal, but it still has traction problems and its very unlikely a high powered Supra can make a great time on a road course. The all wheel drive system of the Nissan Skyline GT-R is amazing, when modified to a high power (lets say 450WHP+) this is where the GT-R holds an advantage over the Supra. Even if the Skyline has less power than the Supra, if setup properly it will likely beat the Supra on almost anything, drag racing, road racing, time attack, etc…
In the end, there really isnt a winner though. Being a owner of either of these cars you are left with many options and can create an awesome care with either, stock or modified.
